Ouch!
So, this is my second blog, and I have no idea what to write about! The only thing I can think of to say is what happened to me today while on my way to class. It's quite embarrassing, and I'd rather not tell the story, but whatever. What's wrong with making fun of yourself? Anyway, here's the story!
I got up wicked early today, because my German class started at 8:25, and like everyday, I got dressed. It's really hard for me to get up and just dress because usually, I eat breakfast in front of the television, relax a little bit, and then dress. But since I am in college now, sleep is my biggest priority, and getting up at 6 to do all that stuff doesn't seem very smart. Anyway, I left my dorm and started to walk to Waterman, like I do every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. It was very cold today, colder than usual, so I didn't break a sweat like I have been the past few days. While I am walking, (keep in mind I have my earphones in and I'm blasting my music in my ears) a biker is behind me, obviously biking. I couldn't hear him behind me, because of the music, so I'm thinking I'm free to weave in and out of slow people in front of me. What a bad idea! Just as I'm about to pass someone on the left side, the biker comes up behind me, and we collide! His wheel rammed against my leg, I fell to the ground, and he fell off his bike. We both were on the sidewalk in pain, and everyone was staring at us. There were people on the other side of the street laughing at us and some were in shock that that had happened. It was sooooo embarrassing!! Anyway, after a lifetime on the ground, we both got up, and said sorry to each other and laughed. Then, we both went our separate ways.
Next time I walk to class, I am not going to be listening to music, or at least, not loud music.

That hasn't happened to me yet (the key word here being YET), but I've had that same fear, whether it be a crazed biker on the way to class, or a carefree skateboarded whose board is at the exact height to take out my ankles if he/she were so inclined. The sound of something rolling up behind me while I'm walking to class, whether it's a bike or board, seems to put me on edge...
Slightly off topic...this post sparked a thought involving walking in a semi crowded hallway or on a sidewalk. I hate it when I'm walking along and there is someone who is walking straight towards me. It's just one of those things that is inherently annoying, no matter what the situation.
From a distance, it's hard to tell whether or not the person is walking straight at you...but as you get closer to each other, it's very obvious that if you keep walking straight, there will be a two person pile-up that will block general hallway traffic. It's almost like a stand-off, trying to decide who is going to move first. Picture two lions on the African savannah fighting over who gets the half-eaten antelope carcass. This situation has the potential to become an issue of pride (especially with bitchy girls/arrogant guys who think they're just the best thing since sliced bread and refuse to step off of the sidewalk for those of us who are "less than worthy"). Usually, out of common courtesy, both people move, and it avoids the collision altogether. BUT it gets even more awkward when both people move the same way, so you're still right in front of each other. Then there is the awkward, which-way-are-you-going side step jig going on. Which anyone will tell you, doing this with a full backpack or your hands full is neither an easy nor pleasant task.
Ahh well. C'est la vie I suppose ... just another pleasant quirk in the human social world.
